How long does this cream cheese mints recipe keep?

Cream cheese mints can last for up to 2 weeks in your refrigerator. I advice you store them in an airtight container and place them in one of the cold dry places of your refrigerator (mine happens to be inside one of the drawers).

If you want to store them for longer, maybe because you want to make them really ahead of time or want to always have a stash on hand, you can put them in a zip bag and freeze in the freezer for up to 12 months!

What flavors can I use for my cream cheese mints recipe?

I know they are called mints and a lot of people love that they are minty. However you can play with the extracts as much as you like for this tasty dessert! I love them in vanilla or lemon flavors too.

These heart mints are delicious and refreshing with mint extract and peppermint extract but I love the combination of lemon and grapefruit during the summer months. Orange extract and almond extract are also really delicious too as well as cinnamon, making these the perfect Christmas candy.

Cream cheese mints are a sweet treat that everyone seems to love, better than chocolate! They’re quick and easy to make, and they taste great. Here’s how I make mine for the Valentine’s!

Ingredients:

  • cream cheese
  • butter
  • confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)
  • mint, spearmint or peppermint oil
  • Food coloring (gel food coloring works best)

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl combine cream cheese and butter until creamy, using an electric mixer. Add mint oil.
  2. Add confectioners sugar and with the help of a rubber spatula incorporate the sugar.
  3. Divide the mixture between 3 medium bowls.
  4. Add two drops of food coloring to one bowl (these will be pastels), three drops to another and four drops to the last one.
  5. Mix until thoroughly incorporated.
  6. You can use a small cookie cutter to shape the heart out of dough if you don’t like the handmade look. But if you don’t have any available, no worries, you can still shape your mints! With the help of your hands shape a small ball.
  7. Then a small V shape.
  8. And finally a small heart. Repeat the process with the rest of the mix.
  9. Let it harden for 2 hours on a baking sheet lined with wax paper or parchment paper, before cooling in the fridge. Keep each layer separately and don’t over crowd the mints.
