Can you tube in Harpers Ferry? ›

Things to Know about our Flat Water Tubing Adventures

Flat Water Tubing guests must be at least 5 years old, 50 lbs, and know how to swim. Anyone under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

There are countless swimming spots across our region – from the sandy beaches at Point Lookout, to backyard streams and creeks. One of our favorite spots for cooling off on the river is Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

Whitewater rafting is generally considered safe for non-swimmers, but the sport has inherent risks. One of the biggest dangers of whitewater rafting is being thrown off the raft during a whitewater rafting trip. This can cause serious injury, so always wearing a life jacket and staying on board is essential.

As of February 22, 2010, a new federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws, to legally possess firearms in this park.

- Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. “How long do you recommend allowing to visit the historic part of the park?” Because of the parking setup (you have to park a few miles away and take a free shuttle), I would allow 3 hours, more if you want to eat at a local restaurant.

The river is about 11 miles wide be- tween Point Lookout and Smith Point. Upstream, from Great Falls to Harpers Fer- ry, it averages about 1,300 feet in width.

All tours include Class I-III (sometimes I-II+) rapids on this prime stretch of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Both rivers transition from classic bouncy whitewater experiences in the spring and early summer, to more technical paddling experiences as the river levels drop mid-summer to early fall.

Just before Washington, D.C. in Potomac, MD, the river runs through the Great Falls of the Potomac, where it builds up speed and descends through a series of 20-foot waterfalls and Class VI rapids, navigable only by the most experienced whitewater kayakers.

The Harpers Ferry water treatment plant treats raw water for human consumption by removing disease-causing organisms, including viruses, bacteria and algae, and suspended solids such as sediment.

For all its history, one of Harpers Ferry's best attributes is its timeless natural beauty. Stand at The Point (where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers meet) in Lower Town and see it all. The imposing Blue Ridge Mountains surround on three sides, casting long shadows over tree-covered foothills.
